Helpful Tips to Improve Your Home Worth
Get Organized!
Start with a Plan. Make a list of projects you want to complete during the year and prioritize them. You don’t have to do everything this month; pace yourself so you won’t feel overwhelmed.
Take three simple steps. When you’re organizing, use a three-box system; keep, discard, and don’t know. When you’re finished, seal the don’t know box and put it away. If you haven’t opened it in a year, you don’t really need whatever is in there - throw it away without looking inside.
De-clutter the kitchen. The kitchen is often a catch-all for clutter. Review what’s on your counters and move small appliances and cookware you use most often to easy-to-reach cabinets.
Don’t forget the basement and garage. The best way to organize these areas is to create “zones” and keep the tools and products you need in their respective zones, such as lawn care, sports equipment & toys and general hardware & tools
Storage is essential. Packing can be strenuous and a bit overwhelming if you try to do it all at one time. To save precious time and energy when your home is sold, start packing now. A storage unit will keep your things safe and out of the way while you focus on the move.
Decorate on a Dime!
Start with a Plan. Do you entertain often? Do you have young children? What’s your style – formal, casual or contemporary? Define your budget and get a general idea of what you need before you go shopping.
Paint works wonders. Dollar for dollar, paint gives you the greatest bang for your buck. You can totally change the look of a room by painting the walls, trim or ceiling a different color.
Toss it up. Bring life to that old sofa with some fresh new toss pillows in different shapes and complementary colors. Along the same lines, throw rugs can add interest and instantly warm up a room.
Accessorize! Little things mean a lot. Give you home personality with touches like floral arrangements, plants, candles and artwork. Visit flea markets and yard sales for unique items that can be re-purposed.
Turn on the light. Lighting can set the tone for a room, so it’s important to choose the right lamps and installed lighting. Consider using floor or table lamps to brighten a dimly lit corner.
Rearrange your belongings. The easiest and least expensive way to freshen up your home decor is to move around what you already have. Get inspired by pictures from magazines.
Curb Appeal 101!
Repair and re-seed. Fall is a great time to repair a damaged lawn and re-seed. Fill any holes or bare spots with topsoil and add grass seed.
Don’t forget to water. Water your lawn deeply to reach the roots. To minimize the threat of fungal disease, water in the morning or early afternoon so that the grass blades are not moist overnight.
Prune with care. Pruning promotes growth, so be careful not to encourage growth when plants are about to go dormant. Remove diseased, dead or broken branches.
Spruce Up Flower Beds. Replace warm-weather annuals with seasonal favorites like pansies and mums. Clean out summer perennials and add a fresh layer of mulch.
Plant ahead for spring. Foolproof and fabulous, spring-flowering bulbs put gardening within everyone’s reach. When choosing bulbs, focus on color, or try shades that accent already established plantings throughout your garden.
